Dr. Alina N. Schneider, MD

Dr. Schneider did her undergraduate work at Stanford, where she completed her psychology thesis on language processing. She worked in research on insomnia and bipolar disorder for several years before enrolling in medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

She was awarded a National Health Service Corps scholarship. Alina trained in adult psychiatry at the University of New Mexico and University of Washington and then completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Washington. She is board-certified in both general adult and child and adolescent psychiatry.

Since graduation, she has worked in diverse settings, including community psychiatry, private practice, emergency psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, and residential treatment. While she has worked with patients of all ages, she particularly enjoys working with teenagers and their families on the transition to independence.

Conservative in her approach, she is cautious in making quick diagnoses and enjoys helping patients and their families make informed decisions. Medication can be a tool, but is only part of the solution, and an individual's goals, supports, and motivation are invaluable to recovery.

Dr. Schneider moved to Alaska in 2015 with an eventful trip up the Alaska highway and enjoys the winters here, with the chance to get out and ski or snowshoe. She also enjoys cooking and playing with her pet cats.
