Lori graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Alaska Pacific University with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. She has been working with individuals and families for 10 years in many levels of care including long term residential treatment, intensive wraparound services, as well as outpatient therapy. She enjoys working with adolescents to middle age adults who may be struggling with a variety of issues including transitional and adjustment issues, interpersonal relationship issues, and who may be struggling with day to day functioning due to depression or anxiety. She works closely with both the individual and/or family members to identify their personal goals and will also encourage families to work together in achieving these goals. When working with adolescents she helps families normalize issues teens face today and helps families move through the stages of dependence to independent living. She also enjoys working with them to address the peer issues they are facing today; anger, fitting in and self esteem.
Carlyn graduated with a Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Alaska Anchorage. Her undergraduate schooling was in dance, which is a field shes been involved in most of her life both as a dancer and teacher. She uses the information she's learned from dance training as well as her psychological training when she works with others who are trying to improve their lives. She believes that the connection between the mind and body are an important piece of being healthy and feeling good about oneself. She sees adults and adolescents with varying issues, but is particularly interested in working with women regarding women's issues. Caryln is also interested in working with individuals or their family members who may be having some difficulty adjusting to the changes that have occurred or that need to occur due to a recent medical diagnosis or injury.
Prentiss received his MSW from The University of Alaska Anchorage in 1999. He has been working in the mental health field for the past 20 years. His work experience encompasses a wide spectrum including; Medical Social Worker for the brain injury unit at Alaska Regional Hospital, clinical therapist at an adolescent residential program, ten years as a therapeutic foster parent for delinquent teens, and as a crisis intervention specialist at a Community Mental Health Center. Prentiss has a passion for working with teens and adults who suffer from Anxiety, Depression, and Mood disorders. Prentiss believes in each individual’s right to self determination and in their ability to change negative thinking and behavioral patterns. Prentiss has been practicing as an individual and Family therapist for the past five years.
Ebony McClain-Owens is a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) and has been in the mental health field for approximately eleven years. She began her career in 1999 as a psychiatric treatment counselor for an Anchorage-based residential treatment facility. Since that time, she has worked for several agencies as a counselor, specializing in the areas of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, bereavement, women issues, managing chronic illness and relapse prevention.
Today she currently gears her practice toward preadolescent, adolescent and adult individuals. She enjoys assisting her clients through the phases of life challenges; working with each individual to develop their confidence to self-manage themselves and to find individual success.
Presently Ebony is working on her PhD with an expected completion in 2012.
Chanda comes to Bridges from Regional Hospital. Her work at the hospital as a social worker has refined her interest in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and depression deriving from complex medical diagnosis.
Additionally, working with families and couples on issues of communication and resolution has been a particular gratification. Issues around loss, grief, or conflict are the staples of Ms. Driscoll's work.
Damon has been a social worker since 2006. His career began at F.D. Roosevelt Wilderness Camp where he supervised a team of counselors working with troubled youth, parents, and families. Today his practice has focused in working with adults and families. His work at Providence Hospital has ignited a passion for work with individuals, adolescents and adults, coping with difficult communication dynamics, psychiatric diagnosis of depression and the anxieties brought on by life's challenges.
As a practicing physician and psychiatrist for over twenty years Dr. Detwiler comes to Bridges with a wealth of experience. Dr. 'Fred', as he's referred to by his younger clients, has served his country as a Colonel in the US Army during Desert Storm/Shield. He has helped develop advance trauma recovery treatment for US Army veterans. A private practice and hospital directorships in California and Alaska has helped him define his vision for practicing with Bridges. He wishes to pursue treatment of adults and children in the intimate environment that Bridges provides. Dr. Fred has focused on the medical treatment of psychiatric and psychological conditions, however he balances modern medicine with the non-pharmaceutical approach to treatment (CBT, EMDR bio-feedback, etc.). For Dr. Detwiler the pursuit of recovery comes in many forms and he wishes to participate, advise, and guide all his clients to their definition of health.
Dr. Wald brings his forty years of psychiatric experience to Bridges. His insight into pediatric psychiatry and his long history in traditional psycho-therapy has added a wonderful facet to our group. Dr. Wald was a past president of the Alaska Psychiatric Association.
